Our Spanish I students will take the New York State Spanish Second Language Proficiency Exam in June. This is a standardized test that measures a student's proficiency in a language up to checkpoint A in the high school curriculum, which is the equivalent of one year of language study in high school. Students who pass both the exam and the course with a minimum grade of 65 will receive 2 credits on their high school transcripts and automatically be placed in Spanish 2 as 9/10thth graders. Students who opt to study a language other than Spanish in high school still benefit from two elective credits towards their high school diploma requirements. Click on the link below for more information on the exam and copies of exams from previous years.
