Grading Policy and Expectations
Categories are weighted as follows:
Assessments 60%
Exit Assesments 15%
Participation Coursework 25%
Here are examples of what assignments and activities fall under each category.
Unit Tests
Students will take 1 or 2 unit tests during each marking period. The unit outlines are posted on this website and are given to students during class. These exams require review and studying that should begin 1-2 weeks before the exam date.
Quizzes/Exit Slips
These are both announced and unannounced assessments that focus on one or a few skills taught during a unit.
Classwork
Classwork grades include note taking, dictation, partner dialogues and conversations, written responses in notebooks, notebook checks and oral participation in class.
Homework
Homework is assigned daily and is usually due the next class, unless otherwise noted. Homework usually involves written work in notebooks but can include photocopies, small projects and digital work such as Quizlet and Duolingo. Students copy homework in their planners at the beginning of every class and homework from the previous class is also checked for completion and reviewed at the beginning of every class. Assignments are also posted on pupil path. Students who were absent are responsible for copying assignments from classmates or pupil path and submitting them on the day of their return to school or one day later.
Homework Policy
-Late homework will be accepted for partial credit only (65).
-No late assignments of any sort can be accepted after the end of a marking period.
-Students are responsible for copying down their homework exactly as it written every day in their planers. Parents can monitor assignments on the assignment calendar feature of Jupiter or Google Classroom. We update our online grade books weekly. Please do not allow missing assignments to accumulate. Students need to complete the material as it is assigned to keep up with the curriculum as it is being taught.
-Duolingo and Quizlet accounts must have a student's real first name and last initial in them so that we can identify who the account belongs to. Using your complete real name is not necessary.
